When you're not on the beach, life in Torremolinos centres around Calle San Miguel, a pedestrian shopping street whose boutiques and shops for mums in Spain looking to splash a bit of money on themselves draw constant crowds. The steep steps at the end of San Miguel lead to El Bajondillo, a picturesque area lined with restaurants souvenir shops leading to the beach area.
Further on are Playamar and Los Alamos beaches and, in the other direction, the sandy strips of La Carihuela and Montemar. You can walk along the seafront promenade from Playamar in the east to as far as Benalmádena Marina to the west, passing the pretty old fishing village of La Carihuela which was once the heart of the town. It still displays vestiges of typical Andalucian village life, with old men sitting outside their fishermen's cottages playing cards, and it's the place to come to eat good quality fish.
Another quieter area to explore, just north of the main road that dissects Torremolinos, is El Calvario, with small streets of bars away from the tourist masses. Or head to the forested areas outside the town, with freshwater springs and barbecue areas.
A great day out for children is at AquaLand which includes the new 'Boomerang' water attraction. AquaLand
is reached by direct buses from the centre of town. If you're kids are not wanting to leave then simply sort out the house removals and move over immediately! |
