Sancti Petri and Novo Sancti Petri

SANCTI PETRI AND NOVO SANCTI PETRI

Sancti Petri is an enchanting and quite mysterious place – but not a place to buy, even if you wanted to, as this tiny village is deserted apart from one family who have stubbornly remained there when everyone else left.
Though it appears to be little documented, apparently the Japanese came to Sancti Petri to hoover the sea floor of tuna. With it, they destroyed the local economy, forcing everyone to leave – apart from that one family, whose house is the only place with any sign of life amid rows of empty homes and the remaining vestiges of the village such as the deserted little hospital. The cinema and church were recently bulldozed as Sancti Petri has been bought out and is soon to be transformed into a swanky marina, where at present there are simply rows of boats.

For accommodation information then please see Novo Sancti Petri Hotels

This peaceful spot is home to the Sancti Petri windsurf club, providing the perfect combination of endless beaches, a constant breeze – and the picturesque bonus of an 18th century castle on an island a short distance from the shore. You can see also Cadiz across the bay in the distance.

While property in old Sancti Petri may not be available for purchase, Novo Sancti Petri, 6km from Chiclana, is one of only two purpose-built seaside resorts in the Cadiz province. The new townhouses are based around a 36-hole golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros, with wonderful sea views. The course also has a 280m driving range for up to 70 players and four putting and pitching greens. The development is popular with Spanish second-home buyers and growing numbers of foreign investors.

Townhouses in Novo Sancti Petri cost around 370,000 euros for three bedrooms with golf views and a private garden, or 430,000 euros for four-bedroom houses with a 600m plot.

The development occupies 400 hectares next to the beautiful 9km-long La Barrosa beach, a rugged part of the coast where you will find sand dunes, coves, cliffs and pine forests.
