| PUNTA UMBRIA
Punta Umbría is the largest resort on the Costa de la
Luz and the nearest to the area’s main city, Huelva. It
has magnificent beaches, great seafood restaurants and is on the
edge of Paraje Natural Marismas del Odiel, an impressive wetland
reserve.
British holidaymakers have been coming here since the end of the
19th century staying in some quality Punta Umbria hotels.
The town itself has many good bars and fish restaurants. Sports
facilities are excellent – including a sports complex with
running tracks, indoor football pitches and swimming pools. But
the beaches are what draws most visitors – and locals, especially
students, who take to the sand in the evenings to play football
and volleyball.
Playa la Mata Negra is a particularly popular beach, with bars,
restaurants and water sports facilities. La Bota and Los Enebrales
are other lovely local beaches.
The town is surrounded by three protected areas of wetland, which
is occasionally overrun with flamingos, a nature reserve which
includes a 2km stretch of sand dunes, and a freshwater lagoon
with birdwatching observation hides.
Property prices are similar to those stated for surrounding resorts
including Islantilla and Isla Cristina.
