PUERTO POLLENSA
Puerto Pollensa has some of the most beautiful waterside views
in Mallorca, with white sand beaches stretching around the wide
horseshoe-shaped bay with the rugged Cabo Formentor headland in
the distance.
Running alongside the beach is Pine Walk, an idyllic stretch of
houses and apartments just metres from the sand, sheltered, naturally,
by pine trees. The water here is shallow and turquoise, a great
place for families. As you head round in the direction of Alcudia,
the beachers are wilder, emptier and favoured spots for windsurfing.
Further along the promenade are shops, restaurants and open air
cafes. The atmosphere is relaxed and leisurely, though there are
plenty of activities available too including water sports, horse
riding, tennis and golf. Across the headland at Cala San Vicente
the rocky coves are perfect for snorkelling.
A short drive inland is Pollensa, a historic and typical Mallorcan
town of narrow cobbled streets. The town which has been popular
with artists since the beginning of the 20th century, inspired
by the surrounding landscapes of steep mountains, deserted shores,
limestone rocks and green pines.
Pollensa now has a large community of foreign residents, lending
it a cosmopolitan character.
Frontline beachside properties on Pine Walk are at a premium,
with new-build three-bedroom apartments costing from 600,000 euros.
Head a road or two back and prices fall to around half that amount
– yet you are still only minutes from the beach. There is
a fair amount of new development taking place here, including
townhouses from 500,000 euros and villas from 780,000 euros.
