| MEDINA SIDONIA
Unlike the equally picturesque white hilltop towns of Vejer and
Arcos de la Frontera, Medina Sidonia has been largely overlooked
until now by foreign visitors and buyers. But a massive new development
project just outside the town, Medina Village Resort, with 2,900
homes ranging from 300,000-900,000 euros and attractions which
include three championship golf courses, an equestrian centre
(which has caught Zara Phillips’ attention) and an international
school, has put the village on the foreign property investor’s
map.
The old village, for those already in the know, is also one of
the most beautiful in Andalucia. The unspoilt small town was one
of Spain’s most important seats of power in the 15th century.
Now there’s a shabbier air to the once grandiose town, which
adds to its photogenic appeal in its tiny, narrow cobbled streets,
the elegant main square and three Moorish entrance gates.
Life here is very traditionally Andalucian, and so far few foreigners
live here so prices are still very reasonable, both for property
and for enjoying the odd meal or few beers out. In the old town,
you can find resale or new-build apartments from around 125,000
euros and new-build terrace houses from 150,000 euros.
Within 20 minutes you can be on stunning beaches or in the buzzing
city of Jerez. Medina is also well-place for nature lovers in
pursuit of more mountainous landscapes, as the Sierre Grazamela
and Alcornocales natural parks are nearby.
