If you are looking for a fun family day out, Fuengirola Zoo - just
five minutes from the bus and train stations - is a very animal-friendly
zoo which allows its inhabitants to wander around in simulated
versions of their natural habitat, from lush tropical forests
to watery recreations of the Nile and African plains. You can
peer at the animals just a few feet away or take the moonlight
visit in summer, to watch the nocturnal species until 1am . There's
also a large play area and miniature farm for children. The zoo
is generally open from 10am-8pm, and until 1am in July and August.
Telephone 95 258 6892 to check times.
The main hotel in Fuengirola is the Hotel Pyr Fuengirola which
is clearly visible from the main highway.
Another spot to while away an afternoon or two is the huge new Parque Miramar shopping centre, the second biggest on the Costa del Sol, next to Fuengirola's castle. There are 150 shops, a large Eroski supermarket, a 12-screen cinema, a food mall serving every type of cuisine imaginable, 2,000 parking spaces and two squares, Plaza de los Planetas, a restaurant and play zone in a planetary galaxy setting, and Plaza de los Mares, with an underwater backdrop. |
