ALICANTE AIRPORT
As Spain’s 6th busiest airport, Alicante handled over 9 million visitors and almost 80,000 flights last year.

It caters for those staying on the Costa Blanca with its holiday hotspots of Benidorm and Torrevieja as well as being an alternative gateway to Costa Calida and Murcia.

Around 80% of all traffic through Alicante Airport (ALC) comes from International flights, and comprises mainly of those from the UK, France, Germany, Holland, Italy and Sweden.

Responding to ever increasing demand for flights to this region, Alicante Airport recently opened a new provisional terminal, T2, which has a spacious boarding area and 4 extra gate taking the total up to 16 and allowing for an extra 22% of passengers to be handled. It has been constructed to help ease the traffic demands at Alicante Airport while the new terminal, to the east of the current one, is being built and now also enables the airport to remain open 22 hours a day.

Currently access is only via the main terminal through an interconnecting link.

There are a variety of shops and restaurants inside the airport from Warner Bros to Burger King, plus a pharmacy, post office, currency exchanges booths and ATM machines.

ALICANTE AIRPORT FLIGHT ARRIVALS
Passenger arrivals come in through the ground floor and are led to the baggage reclaim in the main terminal which has 9 conveyor belts. An additional 2 carousels will be running from T2 from the summer.

ALICANTE AIRPORT FLIGHT DEPARTURES
At the moment check-in is only carried out on the ground floor of the main terminal but by summer 14 new desks will be opened in T2. Boarding for both domestic and international flights takes place on the first floor and in T2’s temporary passenger processing zone.

ALICANTE AIRPORT FLIGHTS
Flying time from the UK to Alicante is just under 2½ hours.
Flights to Alicante are available from these airlines: AerLingus, bmibaby, British Airways, Easyjet, First Choice,FlyBe, FlyGlobespan, Jet 2, Monarch, Ryanair and Thomsonfly.

ALICANTE AIRPORT TAXIS
The taxi rank is conveniently located right outside the arrivals area. Mid season these queues can be long with waiting times of half an hour, although there is a security guard on hand to ensure this happens as smoothly as possible.

There is a maximum limit of 4 people so if there is a bigger crowd of you it may be advisable to book a car in advance, which could also save you considerable money and save you waiting around as you are met in arrivals by someone.

ALICANTE AIRPORT CAR HIRE
Many car hire firms offer rentals from Alicante but only 9 are based within the terminal itself, located by the exit at arrivals. These are: Atesa, AurigaAvis, Centauro, Europa, Goldcar, Hertz, Record, Solmar and Victoria Cars.

ALICANTE AIRPORT BUSES
Buses from Alicante Airport run as far afield as Madrid to Alicante city centre. Stops are located a 2 minute walk across the road from the arrivals hall.

There are no trains directly from Aicante Airport although there are local trains.

ALICANTE AIRPORT PARKING
Found adjacent to the main terminal, the Alicante Airport car park has spaces for 2000 vehicles. At the moment it costs 0.62 for the first half hour, 0.98 for the second, 0.98 for each additional hour and daily charges of 17.45, reduced to 13.95 from the fifth day.

There are alternatives found off site which are considerably cheaper for long-term stays and most offer a free shuttle. Additional services like valeting and insurance maybe available.

Companies that offer long-term parking at Alicante Airport are: Aupaparking, Global Cars, Claus Parking, Royal Parking and Victoria Parking.

ALICANTE AIRPORT WEATHER
Surrounded to the north by hills and mountains, Alicante has a kind of microclimate which sees temperatures by the coast falling to not much below 16ºC in the winter. It receives just 20 days of rain per year.
