CHIPIONA
Spanish tourists have long flocked to Chipiona for its therapeutic,
iodine-rich seawater – and its excellent fish restaurants.
Though lesser known by foreign tourists, this is a pleasant, lively
and very Spanish town, 9km west of Sanlúcar and 52km from
Cádiz, which is busy in summer with Spanish families visiting
their holiday homes by the long, sandy beaches, the best of which
is Playa Camaron to the East of town.
The town of 17,000 inhabitants, which dates back to Roman times,
is – appropriately for us – named after the lighthouse
which is the tallest in Spain. In August, Chipiona’s bars,
restaurants and discos in town can be seen in full flow, but out
of season it’s a very quiet seaside town.
As an indication of property prices, you can buy a spacious, furnished
newly-built three-bedroom apartment on the outskirts of town and
near the beach for 227,000 euros. A resale frontline beach townhouse
costs around 260,000 euros.
