This historic small town of gently sloping streets, orange trees and Moorish-style mansions is dominated by the huge cathedral in the main square, the symbol of Benissa. Typically it's photographed at its best with the purple-tinted mountain ridge behind, and with the cooling palm trees and fountains to its side.

Benissa's old centre is beautifully preserved, owing its character to the town's many inhabitants from the Romans to the Moors.
