ALMERIMAR
Half an hour’s drive from Almeria airport is Almerimar,
the driest place in Europe, it’s said. Almerimar is one
of the fastest-developing areas on this coast with 13km of wide
sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and a sports port with a 1,100-berth
marina. It’s a great spot for sports enthusiasts, especially
of the watery variety.
Snorkelling and scuba diving are excellent here, and it’s
a popular place with those who like their fishing, sailing or
windsurfing. There are also good land-locked facilities for tennis
players, horse-riders and there is an 18-hole golf course nearby,
while skiers can be on the Sierra Nevada’s slopes in an
hour.
With so many tourists, and burgeoning demand from holiday home
buyers, there is a good tourist infrastructure with everything
from supermarkets, campsites, holiday apartments and laundry services
to bars, restaurants, discos and health centres. The town is seeing
a lot of off-plan development, with two-bed apartments near Laguna
Beach from 158,000 euros, frontline beach two-bed apartments from
230,000 euros or frontline one-bed apartments on Almerimar Golf
from 135,000 euros.
