Although most buyers of holiday homes prefer to head to resorts
north or south of Alicante on the Costa Blanca, the area's main
city has much to offer, with new developments mushrooming on its
outskirts.

The city itself has much Mediterranean charm, with a lovely old quarter, El Barrio, full of restaurants, bars and shops. The Santa Cruz residential area is particularly photogenic with its steep streets of whitewashed houses. Alicante also has a very popular long sandy beach Playa de Postiguet running the length of the town.
Life revolves around the Explanada de España, which runs alongside the harbour. Throughout the day and night, the Explanada is busy with crowds in the pavement cafes and milling around the market stalls in the evening. There are various golf courses within an hour's drive of Alicante, including Alicante Golf Club at San Juan Beach Alicante, El Plantio Golf Club at Elche. Green fees cost around £30-60, depending on the course and time of year.
New apartments in a residential area of central Alicante cost from £100,000, existing apartments near the beach from about £160,000. Large bungalows near the beach cost from £270,000.
The purpose built residential area of Gran Alacant is a popular choice for holiday home buyers as it's a 10 minute drive from Alicante airport (though not on the flight path so not affected by noise), heading towards Santa Pola. The beach is a short walk away, and there are plenty of facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, shops, banks and bars/restaurants and there are large supermarkets nearby. There is soon to be a golf course here too.
Urbanisations in Gran Alacant include Altomar, where you can buy
quads (quarter-detached chalets) with three bedrooms. Average
prices for property in Gran Alacant is: apartments from £80,000,
terraced villas from £100,000 and semi-detached or detached villas
near Carabasi beach from £170,000.
As you would imagine in Alicante, being such a popular holiday
and tourist destination there is a great number of Alicante Hotels
from which to choose. You can stay in accommodation from 2 star
up to 5 star, on the beach front or slightly more inland, the
choice is yours.
